560 PRINCE GEORGES COUNTY

The Court adjourned till to Morrow Morneing 8 of the Clock and then mett
and Satt.

Present. Mr. Thomas Hollyday, Mr. William Hutcheson, Mr. Robert Bradley,
Mr. Samuell Magruder, Mr. Robert Wade, Mr. Thomas Sprigg, Mr. James
Stodart.

[474] Mr. Robert Clarke being Speaciall Baile for Martin Poartwood he being
Sued and Cast at the Suet of Nathaniell Jenkinson brought the body of the
Said Martin into Court and was Discharged from the Same Whereupon the
Said Poartwood was Comitted into Custody untill it be made appear the Debt
and Cost be paid and Sattisfyed that he was Sued for.

The Court adjourned for half an hour for want of Mr. Cecell and then mett
and Satt.

Present. Mr. Thomas Hollyday, Mr. William Hutchison, Mr. Robert Bradley,
Mr. John Hawkins, Mr. Robert Wade, Mr. Samuell Magruder, Mr. Thomas
Sprigg, Mr. James Stoddart.

Command was given to the Sheriffe that he Summon another Jury.

Francis Wheeler fined 100 pounds of Tobacco for not appearing as a Jury-
man, [fine]

Mr. Cecell and Mr. Stone Fined 100 lbs. of Tobacco Each of them for their
foule pleadeing but upon their Submission the fines was remitted.

John Cliffoard, base borne Child of Abigaile Clifford by the Consent of his
mother he being then five months Old was bound out to Edward Willett or
his assignes till he arrive to the age of one and twenty years of age.

Mr. James Moor made Oath to an account against Mr. Thomas Taney.

Mr. Small made oath to an account of Jackson and Company against John
Chapman.

Mr. Cecell made Oath to the best of his Knowledge to Jacksons account
against Ditto.

Joseph Jackson and Company Plantiff: John Chappman Defendant
John Chapman Late of Prince Georges County planter was atteached to
answer unto Joseph Jackson and Company of London Merchants of a plea of
Tresspass upon the Case etc.

And whereupon the Said Joseph and Company by Joshua Cecell their Attor-
ney Compleineth that whereas the Said John the 12th day of September in
the year of our Lord 1698 att Charles Towne within the Jurisdiction of this
Court was indebted unto the Said Joseph and Company in the Sume of five
hundred and Eight pounds of Tobacco being as well for his promise and
assumption to pay to the Said Joseph and Company for one James Williams
four hundred pounds of Tobacco as allso for two Gallons one Quart of rome
by David Small Factor of the Said Joseph and Company Sold and Delivered
to the Said John as by a Perticular account thereof here in Court produced
