Martin Poartwood by their Attorneys aforesaid and the Said Nathaniell Jenkin-
son prayeth that the Said Martin Poartwood to his Declaration aforesaid may
answer.
And now here att this day came the Said Martin Poartwood by William Stone
his attorney and Further defendeth the aforesaid force and Injury when etc. and
produced an account against the Said Nathaniell Jenkinson in Barr of the Debt
he is now Sued for and Saith that the Said Martin Poartwood did not assume
in manner and forme as the Plantiff in his Declaration aforesaid hath Com-
pleined against him and of this he putts himselfe upon the Country. William

Therefore it is Commanded the Sheriffe that without delay he cause to come
here Twelve etc. by whom etc. and who neither etc. to recognize etc. because as
well etc. and now here at this day came as well the Said Nathaniell Jenkinson
as the Said Martin Poartwood by their Attorneys aforesaid and the Jurors
thereon impaneld being Called likewise came (viz.)
Forman James Stoddart, Robert Clarke, John Lennam, Paule Busey, Henry
Cullver, Thomas James, Christopher Thompson, John Davis, Benjamin Long,
Robert Robertson, Nicholas Baker, Bartholomew Goff. Sumoned per Thomas
Greenfeild, Sherife.
Who to Speak the truth Concerneing the premisses being Elected tryed and
Sworne upon their oathes doe Say that the Defendant doth owe to the Said
Nathaniell Jenkinson Seven hundred and fifety pounds of Tobacco it appeare-
ing unto them that the above account of the Said Martin Poartwoods became
Due unto him Since the Bill Speacifyed in the above Declaration from the
Said Poartwood to the Said Jenkenson.
[392] Therefore it is Considered that the Said Nathaniell Jenkinson recover
against the Said Martin Poartwood the Sume of Seven hundred and fifety
pounds of Tobacco the Ballance of his Debt Sued for as affore Said and his
Damages by Occation of Deteineing the Said Debt to Nine hundred and fifety
Six pounds of Tobacco to the Said Nathaniell Jenkeson of his assent by the
Court here adjudged and the Said Martin Poartwood in Mercy.
James Brook plantiff: William Groome Defendant
Command was Given to the Sheriffe of Prince Georges County that of the
Goods Chatties and Credditts of William Groome hee atteach in the hand or
hands of any person or persons in this County as Well the Sume of nine hun-
dred ninety Eight pounds of Tobacco a certaine Debt for Damages recovered
against him as allso the Sume of four hundred and fourteen pounds of Tobacco
cost of Suite the whole amounting to fourteen hundred and twelve pounds of
Tobacco When he had the Same atteached or any Part thereof the Same in his
hands to keep so that he have the Same before the Justices of our next Prince
