Library, the Comptroller of the Treasury shall issue his warrant to the Treasurer to pay said James Wingate for the said Maryland Chancery De- cisions, at the rate of five dollars for each volume purchased. "SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the sum of nine hundred and fifty dol- lars is hereby appropriated from the State Treasury for the purchase of the fourth volume of said Maryland Chancery Decisions, to be paid out of any unappropriated money in the State Treasury. "SEC. 5. And he it enacted, That this act shall take effect from and after the date of its passage." The same appropriation was made, also by a nearly unanimous vote, for the first and second volumes of the work, at the session of 1852, and for the third volume at the session of 1853. The high appreciation of Chancellor Johnson's abilities by the legal profession, has been manifested by the unexampled sale of the work, the entire edition of sets of the Reports having been long since ex- hausted. JAMES WINGATE. BALTIMORE, July, 1854. Annapolis, July 21th, 1854. It is but justice to those interested that the Profession should know by whom these four volumes of CHANCERY DECI- SIONS have been reported. All the Cases comprised in the first volume were originally reported in the "Maryland Free Press," (then a newspaper of this city,) by Daniel M. Thomas and James Franklin, Esqrs., the former now of Baltimore, and the latter of this city. A few of the Cases in the second volume were originally reported in the "Maryland Republican," by Alex. B. Hagner, Esq., of this city. To all these Cases so report- ed, brevier notes were added, the index to the first volume made, and the second volume completed, by Oliver Miller, Esq., who is also the sole reporter of the third and fourth volumes—and is responsible for this statement. James Wingate has published the books, but has not reported a single case in either of them. |
