CHAPTER 232.
AN ACT to pay to Philip W. Downes and George M. Russum, a sum of money for services rendered the State as Counsel in the case of the United States against William H. Whiteley, an officer of Registration of the State of Maryland, for the First Election District of Caroline county.

WHEREAS, Philip W. Downes and George M. Rus-Preambie sum, were duly appointed by Governor Groome, under the provisions of chapter sixty-one, of the acts of eighteen hundred and seventy-four, entitled "An act to provide for the defence of officers of registration and judges of election, who are, or may be indicted in the United States Courts, for acts done in the performance of duties imposed by the Constitution tnd Laws of this State, which acts are alleged to be in violation of the Act of Congress, approved the thirty-first day of May, eighteen hundred and seventy, entitled an act to enforce the rights of citizens of the United States to vote in the several States of this Union, and for other purposes," and of its supplement passed at January session, eighteen hundred and seventy-four, chapter three hundred and seventeen, as counsel to defend William H.
