AN ACT to pay and compensate D. James Black-iston for services rendered in the United States Court in defence of officers of registration, and presented therein for violation as alleged of the Act of Congress, entitled "An act to enforce the rights of citizens of the United States to vote in the several States of the Union, and for other purposes. "

WHEREAS, under the act of the General Assembly of Maryland passed at the January session of eighteen hundred and seventy -four, chapter sixty-one, provision was made for the defence of certain officers of registration, judges of election and other citizens of this State, then under indictment in the United States Courts for alleged violations of the acts of Congress approved May the thirty-first, eighteen hundred and seventy, entitled " An act to enforce the rights of citizens of the United States to vote in the several States of this Union, and for other purposes; " and

WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of said act the said D. James Blackiston was appointed to assist the Attorney General of the State in the defence of two of the parties so presented; and
