CHAPTER 158.

AN ACT to add additional sub-sections to article nineteen of the Public Local Laws of Somerset county, title "License, " and sub-title "Retailers. "

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the following sub-sections be added, to article nineteen of the Code of Public Local Laws of Somerset county to follow sub-section five, which was added by chapter four hundred and twenty-five of the acts of eighteen hundred and seventy-four, to wit:

SUB-SECTION 6. On and after the first day of January, eighteen hundred and seventy-seven, no malt, vinous, spirituous or intoxicating liquors, or any composition of which malt, spirituous, vinous or intoxicating liquors forms the chief ingredient, shall be sold directly or indirectly, or knowingly permitted to be sold, except such as shall be compounded to be used as a medicine, or for mechanical purposes, and except homemade wines, homemade cider and homemade beer, within the limits of Princess Anne district, and Dublin district, and Hungary Neck district of Somerset county, being election districts number one, and number four, and number

five of said Somerset county; and any person violating the provisions of this act shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and on conviction shall be fined not less than twenty nor more than fifty dollars, in the discretion of the court for the first offence; and for a second offence not less than fifty nor more than five hundred dollars, and shall be imprisoned, in addition to the fine imposed, not less than ten nor more than thirty days in the discretion of the court, and for every subsequent offence the fine and imprisonment affixed to the last preceding offence shall be doubled; and one half the fines shall go to to the informer, who shall be certified as such by the grand jury making the presentment, and the other half to the county for the uses of the public schools.
