Nesbut, did not make his return due 1st November 1852 until the close of the
fiscal year. He has since made it, amounting to $1, 686.98, and paid it; and also
the above balance, execept $200, for tax on his office due 1st November, 1852.
Neither Mr. Garey, nor Mr. Jamar, has made any return 1st November
1952, nor has Mr. Sappington rendered any account since he left office.
Many of the stamp accounts of the late clerks remain unadjusted, for the rea-
son that discrepencies exist in the amounts with which they have charged them-
selves, and the accounts as they stand on the books of the Treasury; and as most
of these accounts have remained open from the begining,the statements have
been attended with a great deal of labor; and the insufficiency of the clerical
force in the Department, has prevented me from giving only a partial attention to their final adjustment
