The tract of land on which it was situated was enjoyed by a separate* community, and it mattered 66 nothing if the houses were scattered up and down the township. Indeed, a town may, it is said, be a very good town although not a house remains standing. In Ireland the word retains its original signification, and ac- cording to Miss Edgeworth, English visitors are often perplexed by its application. Now, if dower has been received in the same parish or in any other territorial subdivision, but not out of the same town, the writ will not be abated. And thirdly, the dower must have been received before the writ purchased, 2 Inst. 261.
