( 88 ) - - - - - - - Ordered by the Court that the Sheriffe Sumon all these persons that has any of this Country=s Arms in this County that they appear next Court to render accompt thereof according to an Order past in fo.22 Major Robert King and mr Thomas: Newbold, takes their places at the bench in Court -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Then was the Ordinances of the last Convention read in Court upon which some discourses arose between Coll. Browne and Major King B Coll Brown then left the Court and soon after the Court adjourned for half an hour. to which Court the sd Brown Came no more. - - Coll D.B. not on Kemp & Downs tryall The Court this day called again. Comrs. Present were: - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Mr. Francis: Jenckins: Majr. Robert: King. Capt: John: Winder. Mr. James Dashiels Mr. James: Round. Mr. Samuel: Hopkins. Mr. Thomas: Jones. Mr. Tho:Newbold. Capt Jno. King on Kemp & Downs tryall. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Order was given by this Court that all those persons that were privy to Wm: Morris Escape or assisting should should be Sumoned to Court and to answer what shall be objected.& that they forthwith appear. Order. Likewise was given that the Sheriffe produce his sd prisoner Wm: Morris - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - To the worll. their Maties Justices of the Peace for the County of Somerset in Court Sitting. The humble Petion of Edward Stockdall humbly sheweth whereas your Petioner had occasion for England and being posest with a piece of Land left to your Petioner by your Petioners ffather, and while your Petioner was absent the land was posest by others, and your Petioner humbly craves to have two wittnesses sworn and your Petioner as in duty bound shall pray. Whereupon came Henry Hudson Senior and Widdow Quillain both of this County and made Oath upon ye holy Evangelists that he the sd Edward: Stockdall was the naturall Sonn of the sd Edward Stockdall that that lived att Hungers about eight and twenty or thirty years agoe. The Deposition of William: Whittington aged forty two years or there abouts Deposeth That this deponent went to school with Edward Stockdall about Six and thirty years agoe and in the yeare of our Lord 1659 mr. Melling took the sd Stockdall for Holland with him in which shipp and at that time this Deponents ffather & himself went also this Deponent and the sd Stockdall went with others over f r~. Holland in a fisher boat intended for the Downs, but forst by bad weather to yarmouth, where this Deponents ffather and him Self left the sd Mellin and Stockdall. And this Deponents ffather sometime afterwards did see the said Mellin in London, and this Deponent enquired for the said Stockdall. who informed this Deponent to the best of his Remembrance he had bound him out an Apprentice about Yarmouth or Norwich,also the Deponent doth very believe by Severall Circumstances relating to our voyage. that this Edward: Stockdall here is the very Same person and went as the Sonne of Old Stockdall who was deceased before my time,whose reputed mother was afterward married to Wm: Ward and afterwards to One Wm: Smith and further saith not. Wm: Whittington. Proved in Open Court by the Oath of Wm Whittington. Coppie of which proceedings was given to Edward Stocdall which should have been Entered in fo:85//as his Coppie |
