At a court of Adjournment held by their Maties. Justices of the Peace for the County of
Somerset in the Province of Maryland Anno. Domini. 1690/1 - - - - - - - - -

To the worll their Maties. Justices of the Peace for the County of Somerset in Court Sitting. The humble petion
of Sarah Brereton humbly sheweth.

That your Petioners husband, late sheriffe of this County, dying left Severall papers and accompts of valuable
Concers, pertaining to the publick, but more espetially to this Counties affairs, she being alltogeather uncapable
of Such weighty concers, humbly beggs your worps Candid consideration, and to call in the foresd papers &
and accompts, which are ready to be delivered and your Petioner as in duty bound shall ever pray. &c.

Upon which Petion being read the Court demanded of mr Stephen Luffe Succeeding Sherriffe to y sd Brereton
if he would accept of the foresd papers and accompts, as also collect the tobaccoes due from this County wch
should
have been collected by sd Brereton, which the sd Luffe did accept in Consideration of the psallery due in Such
cases. out of which psallery the sd Luffe did promise to allow the sd mrs Brereton 1200lb. Pounds of tobacco.
the sd Luffe likewise in Open Court assumed to give Security for due performance of the same. And whereupon
the sd Luffe with mr Thomas Jones and Capt John: King in Open Court became Securities pr assumption
the Clerk Ordered to draw the Bond when opportunity first admitted . - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Runawayes & fugitive persons not to be charged to mr Luffe.

To the worll Court of Somerset County. yr Petioner aged about fifty three years being Sumoned for a grand Jury
man humbly sheweth yt he did endeavour to attend yr Court, but as I was on my way to the Court lost my horse and
not able to go a foot was the cause I did not appear, but Since being Sumoned to appear to Shew the reason
why I did not appear I did again proceed on my journey to the Court but the Court not Sitting at January
Court, could not then satisfie the Court finding my self crazy and well stricken in years, and that such journeys
doth much impair his health. now humbly prayes that your worps would be pleased to excuse yr petioner and
he as bound shall pray &c. George. Hamlin

To the worll. Justices of Somerset County now in Court sitting/ The humble Petion of Richard
Jefferson humbly sheweth that your Petioner was Sumoned by the Sheriffe for to attend the Court as a Jury
man in November, but your petioners wife being very Sick, and yr petioners horse was run away that
your petioner was not in Capassity to come according to the Sumons, hoping that yr worps will be pleased
for to take it into consideration by reason that yr Petioner gave the like occasion before and remit him for
his fine;, and yr petioner as in duty bound shall ever pray. / The sd petion was Sworne to and granted

Wm: Harris Constable of Wiccocomocoe. tooke Oath of Allegiance and abhorrence.

Somerset County Ssc. Whereas Sarah Byfield a poore impotent wom and deafish woman, and in all likelyhood to
come
upon the parish if a Christian care be not taken to prevent it, not withstanding she hath Served Tho. Hobbs
or his deputy three years & one half chiefly to recover her hearing and reading none of which having obteined
and likewise some small matter of wages and not yet paid her.
These are therefore in their Maties names to will and require yu Jno. White the Constable of Mony hundred
to attach the said Thomas: Hobbs, so yt yu have him before me or some other of their Maties Justices of the Peace
of this County to give Security for his appearance the Second tuesday in ffebry. next then and their (to shew
