TUESDAY, January 16, 1872.
The House met, and
Was opened with prayer by the Chaplain.
Present at the call of the roll, the following members:
Messrs. Gorman, (Speaker,) Colton, of St. Mary's, Dunbar,
Wilmer, Hurtt, Wells, Duvall, Henkle, Bond, Sparrow,
Shipley, Turner, Foard, of Bait. co., Litzinger, Spencer,.
Banks, Butler, Roach, Waller, Dougherty, Smith, Vickers,
Radcliffe, Groome, Mearns, Penington, Scott, Bowie, Eareck-
son, Ford, of Q. A., Franklin, Parker, Phillips, Rowe, De-
laplane. Miller, Routzahn, Riley, Baldwin, Streett, Hard-
castle, Deweese, McCosker, Hamilton, T. H., Cooper, Hamil-
ton, C. R.,Jamart, Foster, Staylor, Stewart, Travers, dark,
of Bait. city, Colton, of Bait. city, Kirk, Chaisty, Harig,
Feig, McColgan, Markland, Griswold, Young, of Wash. co.,
Ardinger, Newcomer, Whitson, Hilton, Riggs, dark, of
Mont., Porter, Coles, Young, of Alle., Steele, Lamotte, L. A,
3., Polk, Lamotte, H. H., Linthicum, Johnson, Langrell—76.
Mr. Baldwin presented the petition, of Sarah Morris, the-
widow of a soldier of the War of 1812, praying for a pension
by the State-
Which was read and referred to the Committee on Pensions.
Also,
The petition of Vincent Hudson, praying a pension as a
soldier of the War of 1812.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on Pensions.
Mr. Henkle submitted the following order:
Ordered, That the Committee on the Judiciary be instruct-
ed, to inquire into the propriety of reporting an Act to pro-
vide by law for the employment of convict labor, in certain
cases, upon the public roads and highways in the State.
Which was adopted.
On motion of Mr. dark, of Bait. City,
Leave was granted to the Committee on the Judiciary
to introduce a bill, to repeal section 59 of the Act of 1868,,
chapter 47, entitled "Corporations," and to ro-enact the same
with amendments.
On motion of Mr. Whitson,
Leave was granted to Messrs. Whitson, Young of Wash-
ington, Clark of Montgomery, Polk and Banks, to introduce
