Mr. Harig submitted the following order :
Ordered, That 5,000 copies of the Governor's Message be
printed by the printer hereafter to be appointed—3,000 in
English, and 2,000 in the German language.
Which was read and referred to the Joint Committee on
Printing hereafter to be appointed.
The Speaker announced to the House that the Secretary of
State, in conformity with the provisions of the Constitution,
had delivered to him the returns of the Governor's election.
Mr. Chapman submitted the following message :
BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,
January 5th, 1872.
Gentlemen of the Senate :
We respectfully propose with the concurrence of your
Honorable Body, to open the returns of the election for Gov-
ernor of Maryland this day, at one o'clock, P. M., in the
Hall of the House of Delegates, in the presence of both
Houses, agreeably to the requirements of the Constitution of
the State.

MILTON Y. KIDD,
Chief Clerk.
Which was read, assented to, and sent to the Senate.
The Secretary of the Senate delivered the following
