CHAPTER 385.
AN ACT to incorporate the District of Columbia,
Upper Marlboro' and Hill's Landing Turnpike
Company,

Incorporation
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That William Rowzer, Rector Pum-
phrey, Charles Clagett, Frederick Lasscer, Wil-
liam B. Hill, be and they are hereby appointed
Commissioners to take subscriptions to the capital
stock of the "District of Columbia, Upper Marl-
boro' and Hill's Landing Turnpike Company,"

hereby incorporated; and they, or a majority of
them, may cause books to be opened at such times
and places as they may deem expedient, upon giving
such notice as they may think proper of the time
and place of opening the same.

powers.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the subscribers
of said stock, their successors and assigns, shall,
and they are hereby declared to be incorporated
into a Company by the name of the District of
Columbia, Upper Marlboro' and Hill's Landing
Turnpike Company, and by that name shall he
capable in law of purchasing, holding, selling,
leasing and conveying estates, real, personal and
mixed, so far as may be necessary for the purposes
hereinafter mentioned, and no farther, and shall
have succession, and by said corporate name may
sue and be sued, and may have and use a common
seal, which they may change at pleasure, and shall
have and enjoy, and exercise all the powers, rights
and privileges which other corporate bodies may
lawfully do for the purposes mentioned in this Act.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That when one hun-
dred shares or more of said stock shall have been
subscribed, the said Commissioners, or a majority
of them, shall call a general meeting of the sub-
scribers at such time and place as they may ap-
point, and shall give at least ten day's public
notice thereof, and at such meeting the said Com-
missioners shall lay the subscription books before

the subscribers, or a majority of them, shall elect
five Directors, I y ballot, to manage the affairs of
