the bridges and culverts rebuilt or repaired, pro-
vided the cost thereof shall not exceed twenty
dollars; then he shall report the same to the
County Commissioners, whose duty it shall be im-
mediately to cause the obstructions to be removed,
or such bridge or conduit to be rebuilt or repaired,
as the case may be, either by ordering the super-

visor to hire laborers and teams for the purpose,
or by making a contract therefor with some fit
person, and all moneys required to carry out the
provisions of this law, shall be paid out of the
funds of the county, on the order of the Commis-
sioners, and all bills of costs for hire of persons or
teams, or for other expenses incurred in repairing
the public roads, shall be approved by the County
Commissioners.

Repair twice
in each year.

Sec. 5. And be it enacted, That the several super-
visors shall make general repairs of the roads with-
in their districts, at least twice in each year, once
prior to the fifteenth of May, and once prior to the
fifteenth of September, and the County Commis-
sioners shall fix and regulate, from time to time,
the prices to be paid by supervisors for the hire of
necessary teams and laborers to execute any work
under this law.

Report semi-
annually.

Sec. 6. And be it further enacted, That the
several supervisors shall report serni-annually, in
June and November, to the County Commissioners
the state of the roads within their districts, and
the expenses by them incurred under this law, the
amount of money paid out by them in constructing
and repairing roads, with the vouchers for the

same; that each supervisor shall be entitled to re-
ceive, not exceeding three dollars per day, for each
he is actually employed on the roads, and shall be
wholly exempt during his time of service, from
militia duty and from service on juries.

Proportion of
road tax.

Sec. 7. And be it enacted, That in addition to
the proper proportion of the general road tax levied
for ordinary expenses of roads and bridges within
the county, tine County Commissioners shall have
power, in their discretion, upon the petition of
thirty or more land owners within any road dis-
trict, to levy upon the assessable property within
such road district, an additional special tax of not
more than ten cents in the hundred dollars, to he
