which said money shall be received by the com-
manding officer of the company and be by him
applied to the payment of armory rent or the pur-
chase of uniforms for the rank and file of the active
members of his company, or to such purposes as
may be authorized by the by-laws of said com-
pany; and the commanding officer of every com-
pany shall, on or before the first day of June and

December of every year, render to the Adjutant
General an account of the money so received and
expended by him, and every such honorary mem-
ber shall be entitled to receive a certificate of hon-
orary membership of the company, to be signed as
aforesaid, and bearing date at the time of its issue;
which certificates of membership, whether of uni-
formed and active members or of honorary mem-
bers, shall exempt the person therein named from

jury duty, for the period of one year from the date
of his said certificate; provided, he files his said
certificate with the Clerk of the Court before the
drawing of the jury.
23. Every commissioned officer, non-com-
missioned officer and private, before he enters
upon his duties, or exercises any command, shall
take and subscribe, in such manner and before
such person as the Commander-in Chief may

direct, the following oaths or affirmations, viz;
I, A. B., do solemnly swear, or affirm, that I
will bear true allegiance to the State of Maryland,
and will support the Constitution thereof — so
help me God. I, A. B , do solemnly swear,
or affirm, that I will faithfully and impartially
discharge and perform all the duties incumbent
upon me, according to the best of my abilities
and understanding, agreeable to the Constitu-
tion and laws of the State of Maryland, so help me
God. I, A B, do solemnly swear, or affirm, that
I will support the Constitution of the United States
and the laws made in pursuance thereof, so help
me G-od.
24. The officer before whom the oath or
affirmation was made shall furnish to the party

making it a certificate of the following form,
viz ; This is to certify that A B, commissioned
as within on this ......... day of ............. A. D.,
personally appeared and made the oaths, or
