On motion by Mr. Clarke,

The Senate advised and consented to the aforegoing ap-
pointments, agreeably to the nominations.

STATE OF MARYLAND,
EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT,

Annapolis, January 19,1870.
Gentlemen of the Senate of Maryland:

I herewith transmit to you the Executive appointments-
made by my predecessor in office during the recess of the Sen-
ate for Anne Arundel county:

May 8, 1868.—W. B. Gardiner, Inspector of Lumber, at
Annapolis, vice self, who failed to qualify.

Jan. 11, 1869.—Caleb B. White, Justice of the Peace 4th
district, vice Wm. Bigger, resigned.

Jan. 11, 1869.—James O. Welch, Justice of the Peace 6th
district, vice Wm. Glover, who was ineli-
gible at time of appointment.

ODEN BOWIE.
On motion by Mr. Snyder,

The aforegoing appointments were ordered to lie over.
On motion by Mr. Sayder,

The Senate resumed the consideration of Legislative busi-
ness.

MONDAY, February 14, 1870.

The following communication which had been received
from his Excellency, Governor Bowie, by the hands of the
Hon. Richard C. Hollyday, Secretary of State, were read:
