TUESDAY, January 12,1870.

The following communications which had been received
from His Excellency, Governor Bowie, by the hands of Rich-
ard O. Hollyday, Esquire, Secretary of State, were read:

STATE OF MARYLAND.

EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT,
Annapolis, January 12th, 1870.
Gentlemen of the Senate of Maryland:

In compliance with the 11th section of the 2nd Article of
the Constitution, I report to you the following named per-
sons appointed during the recess of the Senate:

Jan. 13, 1869.—Richard C. Hollyday, Secretary of State.

Feb. 3, 1869.—John A. Smith, Inspector and Ganger of
Liquors in Baltimore city, vice W. H.
Smith, deceased.

ODEN BOWIE.
On motion by Mr. Snyder,

The Senate advised and consented to the aforegoing ap-
pointments agreeably to the nominations,
