the report, and that he furnish to Col. States 150 copies of
report and evidence, and 50 copies of the report.

Mr. Clarke submitted the following

REPORT.
To the Senate of Maryland:

GENTLEMEN : I am instructed by the Joint Committee on
Printing to report to the Senate that the Committee have ap-
pointed Thos. H. Moore to index the laws of the January
session of 1870, his compensation to be the same as that paid
for similar service in the session of 1868.

Chairman.
Which was read and adopted.

On motion by Mr. Miller, it was

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal that if Mr.
Miller had been present when the vote was taken on the bill
entitled an Act to amend certain portions of the Act entitled
an Act to incorporate the Cecil and Harford Counties Boom
Company, he would have voted in the affirmative.

On motion by Mr. Earle, it was

Ordered, That no Senator shall speak more than once on
any one question, and then not for a longer time than five
minutes.
On motion by Mr. Earle,

The Senate proceeded to the consideration of the House bill
entitled an Act making appropriations for the support of the
Government for the year ending January 1, 1871.

Said bill being upon the third reading,
Mr. Fields submitted the following amendment:

Amend by striking out in the 5th line the words "two
thousand," and insert in lieu thereof twelve hundred.

Mr. Timmons submitted the following amendment to the
amendment:

Amend by striking out in the 5th line the words "two
thousand," and insert in lieu thereof fifteen hundred.

On the question being put,

It was determined in the negative by yeas and nays, as
follows:
AFFIRMATIVE.
