mative.

On motion by Mr. Earle,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Finance to report
a bill to pay to M. A. Newell, Principal of Normal School,
six hundred and twenty dollars, paid by him for clerk hire
in preparing his report of the condition of the public schools
to submit to the General Assembly.

Mr. Grove, from the Select Committee, to whom was refer-
red House bill entitled an Act to prevent fishing in Antietam
creek and its tributaries, from the Pennsylvania line to its
mouth, reported it unfavorably,

Arid the report was adopted.
On motion by Mr. Carroll,
The Senate took up for consideration,

The Senate bill entitled an Act to require the Life Associa-
tion of America to deposit certain bonds and mortgages with
the Comptroller of the Treasury, and to provide for the better
protection of the citizens of the State of Maryland.

Said bill being upon the third reading.
(The rules being suspended,)
Mr. Carroll submitted the following amendments:
Amend section 7, lines 9 and 10, by striking out the words
"the safe custody and lawful appropriation of which, the
State of Maryland has guaranteed."
