On motion by Mr. Clarke,

The Senate proceeded to the consideration of the House
bill entitled an Act to amend the Union Railroad Company.

Mr. Clarke submitted the following amendments :
Amend by inserting the following section as section 6:

Section 6. And be it enacted, That if the work upon the
said Union Railroad shall not be commenced within nine
months after the passage of this Act, and shall not be com-
pleted by January 1, 1873, then this Act shall be null and
void.

Section 10, line 11, strike out all after the word "Com-
pany," and insert the following: Provided, that the said
Union Railroad Company shall not charge for the use of the
road a sum not exceeding the rate of five cents per ton, per
mile, for tolls for use of said road for every mile or pro-
portionate part of a mile, and for passengers a sum not ex-
ceeding the rate of ten cents per passenger per mile, or pro-
portionate part of a mile, for each passenger.

Which were severally read and adopted.
The sections as amended were then read and adopted.

Said bill as amended, was then passed by yeas and nays,
as follows:

Biggs, Sellman,
Carroll, Snyder,
Clarke, Spates,
Henkle, Stephenson,
Henry, Welch,
Hyland, Wilson—14.

NEGATIVE.—None.

Said bill was then returned to the House of Delegates.
On motion by Mr. Snyder,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Corporations to
introduce a bill to incorporate the Wesley Mutual Life Assur-
ance Company of Baltimore city.

On motion by Mr. Henkle,

The Senate proceeded to the consideration of the Senate
bill entitled an Act to provide for the inspection of all artifi-
cially manufactured or manipulated fertilizers brought into
or manufactured in this State.
