THURSDAY,. March 17,1870.
The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.
Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Hildt.
Present at roll call, the following Senators :

Messrs. President, Biggs, Browne, Carroll, Clarke, Earle,
Fields, Henkle, Henry, Hyland, Malone, Miller, Parker,
Sellman, Snyder, Spates, Stephenson, Timmons, Welch,
Wilson—20.

The Journal of yesterday was read and approved.
On motion by Mr. Biggs,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Corporations to
introduce a bill entitled an Act to incorporate the Emmitts-
burg Gas Light Company.

On motion by Mr. Fields,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed-
ings to introduce a bill entitled an Act to add an additional
section to Article 30 of the Code of Public General Laws, ti-
tle "Crime? and Punishments," said section to be entitled
"Defaulters."

Mr. Wilson submitted the following

JOINT RESOLUTIONS.

Besolved by the Senate and House of Delegates of Maryland,
That the thanks of the Legislature be, and are hereby, ten-
dered to Hon. R. B. Roosevelt, of New York, for the able and
instructive address delivered before the Joint Assembly of
the two Houses on the 16th of March, on the subject of fish,
their cultivation, preservation, &c.

Resolved, That this General Assembly is convinced that
by a reasonable effort the fisheries of this State may be made
a vast source of wealth to our people.

Resolved, That the Committee on the "Chesapeake Bay
and its Tributaries" be requested at an early day to submit
to the Legislature some plan by which this important subject
may be practically developed.

Which were read the first time.
On motion by Mr. Wilson, (the rules being suspended,)

Said Resolutions were read the second time and ordered to
be engrossed for a third reading.
