Which was read the first time, and referred to the Com-
mittee on Corporations.

And returned Senate bill entitled an Act to appropriate a
sum of money to furnish the Governor's Mansion, and ap-
point a Committee to superintend and control the disburse-
ment of the same, and the purchase of the furniture.

Endorsed, "Passed by yeas and nays."

The Senate bill entitled an Act supplemental to, and to
amend an Act, entitled an Act to incorporate the Maryland
Agricultural and Menhanical Association, passed March 19,
1867,

Was read the second time, and ordered to be engrossed for
a third reading.

By unanimous consent,

Mr. Earle from the Committee on Finance, to whom was re-
ferred House bill entitled an Act, to refund J. S. McCartney,
of Hagerstown, Washington county, the sum of twenty-five
dollars erroneously paid into the Treasury, reported it with-
out amendment.

Said bill was then read the second time.

The Senate bill entitled an Act to amend ail Act entitled
an Act to incorporate the Home Missionary Society of the
Maryland Annual Conference of the Methodist Protestant
Church, passed the December session 1860, chapter 35,

Was read the second time and. ordered to be engrossed for
a third reading.

The President laid before the Senate the following com-
munication from the Comptroller, in answer to an order of
the Senate:

COMPTROLLER'S OFFICE,
Annapolis, February, 4th, 1870.

HON. BARNES COMPTON,
President of the Semite:

Sir,—In compliance with the following order, passed the
Senate on the 1st inst., to wit:

Ordered, That the Comptroller report to the Senate whether
the revenues of the Susquehanna and Tide Water Canal Com-
pany within the two past fiscal years, have been paid with
punctuality, and at the same time to communicate any cor-
respondence between his predecessor in office and the officers
of said Company on this subject—1 have the honor to report
the enclosed statement showing the time of payment of the
interest for the past two years; also, a copy of all letters writ-
