tation Services of the State Department of Educa-

the Department of Human Resources (Chapter
165, Acts of 1992).
BUREAU OF EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Disbanded in 1991. Divisions formerly overseen by
the Bureau are now the responsibility of the School
Improvement Office.
BUREAU OF VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION
& CORRECTIONAL EDUCATION
Disbanded in 1991. The State Superintendent of
Schools now directly oversees divisions formerly
assigned to the Bureau.
DIVISION OF CAREER & TECHNOLOGY
EDUCATION
Renamed the Division of Career Technology and
Adult Learning in 1992.
DIVISION OF INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY
The Division ceased to exist in 1993 due to cost
containment. In 1993, instructional television func-
tions of the Division were transferred to the Maryland
Public Broadcasting Commission (Chapter 175, Acts
of 1993). The Division's reponsibility for METNET a
statewide electronic bulletin board for education, was
reassigned in 1993 to the Division of Planning, Re-
sults, and Information Management.

Renamed as the Division of Career and Technology
Education in 1991.

the Branch was reorganized in January 1993 as the
Program and Finance Coordination Unit under the

INFORMATION MANAGEMENT BRANCH
Formerly under the Division of Special Education, the
Branch was reorganized in January 1993 as the Infor-
mation Management Section under the Division of
Planning, Results, and Information Management

The State Board of Education appointed the Mary-
land Task Force on Outcome-Based Graduation Re-
quirements in January 1992. The Task Force charge
was to study the advisability of restructuring gradu-
ation requirements around student learning outcomes
rather than Carnegie units. The Task Force was asked
to determine the advisability of moving to an out-
come-based approach to graduation requirements;
develop a philosophical statement and definitions for
education decision-making; and propose and market
the outcomes.
In July 1992, the Task Force reported to the State
Board of Education.

Student Achievement and Program Enrichment
Branch in 1992.

Formerly under the Division of Certification and Ac-
creditation, functions of the Branch were transferred to
the Total Quality Services Office in December 1992.
