Annual Report of State's Attorneys' Coordinator w

State's Attorneys' Coordination Council, &
Maryland State's Attorneys'Association.

The State's Attorneys' Coordination Council
was created in 1977 when the office of State's
Attorneys' Coordinator was established (Chapter

710, Acts of 1977). The Coordinator is selected by
and serves at the pleasure of the Council.
The State's Attorneys' Coordinator establishes
standard and specialized training programs and
coordinates legal education programs and services
for State's Attorneys and their professional staffs.
The State's Attorney for each county and the City
of Baltimore prosecutes and defends, on the part of
the State, all cases in which the State may be inter-
ested, except those for which the State Prosecutor
is responsible (Code 1957, Art. 10, sec. 34).
With the approval of the State's Attorneys' Coor-
dination Council, the Coordinator implements
uniform reporting procedures for State's Attorneys
and their starts and confers regularly with the Attorney
General, the State's Attorneys, and the State's
Attorneys' Coordination Coundl. The Coordinator
also serves as a liaison between Maryland's State's
Attorneys and local, State, and federal law enforce-
ment agencies and organizations.
Annually the State's Attorneys' Coordination
Council submits to the Governor a consolidated
budget for the office of State's Attorneys' Coordinator.
The Coordinator's Office publishes a bimonthly
newsletter. The Maryland Prosecutor, as well as
specialized manuals on subjects of concern to
Maryland prosecutors.
The State's Attorneys' Coordination Council is
composed of eleven members. These include the
Attorney General; and the State's Attorneys for
Baltimore City and Baltimore, Anne Arundel,
Prince George's and Montgomery Counties. Also
serving on the Council are those State's Attorneys
chosen by the State's Attorneys of their region to
represent Central Maryland (Howard, Carroll or
Harford County); Southern Maryland (St. Mary's,
Charles or Calvert County); Western Maryland
(Frederick, Washington, AUegany or Garrett Coun-
ty); the Upper Eastern Shore (Cecil, Kent, Queen
Anne's, Caroline orTalbot County); and the Lower
Eastern Shore (Dorchester, Wicomico, Worcester
or Somerset County). Council members serve two-
year terms only during their term of elective office
(Code 1957, Art. 10, sees. 41A-41D).
