The Council is comprised of seven members.
Three are appointed by the Governor. Of these, two
must have expertise in history archeology or other
appropriate disciplines relating to historic preserva-
tion, and the third represents the public. Four mem-
bers serve ex offiao: the Secretary of General
Services, the Secretary of Housing and Community
Development, the Secretary of Transportation, and
the Director of Planning. The Secretary of Housing
and Community Development is designated chair-
person.

The Governor's Advisory Committee on Mari-
time Archeology was established by the Governor
in 1988. The Committee advises the State and the
Maryland Historical Trust, the agency charged with
developing the Maryland Maritime Archeology
Program, in matters of policy and implementation
of regulations to administer the Submerged Ar-
chaeological Historic Properties Act.
Members include representatives from State
government agencies, out-of-state underwater ar-
chaeologists, and members of other groups inter-
ested in submerged cultural resources.
