Service also manages, administers, and controls
recreational use of cooperative wildlife areas and
some State park areas.
The Natural Heritage Program identifies signifi-
cant natural areas of the State and sets priorities
for their protection. A continuously updated and
computerized inventory describes all rare,
threatened and endangered plants and animals, as
well as unique and exemplary natural communi-
ties. The Program proposes a State listing of the
threatened and endangered species and provides
technical assistance to federal. State and local
county agencies and educational institutions on
matters concerning ecological resources in Mary-
land.

Captive Wildlife Advisory Committee
Brian Rutledge, Chairperson
Created in 1986, the Captive Wildlife Advisory
Committee consists of seven members appointed
by the Director of the Forest, Park and Wildlife
Service (Chapter 805, Acts of 1986). The Com-
mittee advises the Director on proposed regula-
tions and other matters relating to captive wild-
life. Members serve three-year terms (Code
Natural Resources Article, sec. 10-910).

The Waterfowl Advisory Committee was for-
merly the Duck Release Program Advisory Com-
mittee. Appointed by the Governor, the Commit-
