The seven members of the Board are appointed
to three-year terms by the Governor with the ad-
vice of the Secretary and the advice and consent
of the Senate. At least four must be members of
the general public (Code Natural Resources Arti-
cle, sees. 1-106 through 1-107).

By Chapter 154, Acts of 1969, the Secretary of
Natural Resources was authorized to create an
advisory board for the Department. The Secretary
determines the size of the Board. Members serve
indefinite terms and represent the different profes-
sional areas or fields of endeavor with which the
Department is concerned (Code Natural Re-
sources Article, sec. 1-105).
OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY
Under the direct supervision of the Office of the
Secretary are the following services: Executive Di-
rection, Public Affairs Office, and General Ad-
ministration.
Executive Direction provides for the establish-
ment, coordination, administration, and direction
of departmental policy, and has final responsibility
for management policy. Executive Direction also
maintains liaison with various legislative bodies.
The Public Affairs Office informs the public of
Department policies and activities.
General Administration is responsible for fiscal
affairs, personnel, federal aid coordination, data
processing services, and management of registra-
tion and titling of boats.

Appointed by the Secretary of Natural Re-
sources, the Council advises the Secretary on
boating laws and how they affect the boating in-
dustry in Maryland (Code Natural Resources Ar-
ticle, sec. l-102(d)).

The Committee coordinates remote sensing ac-
tivities in Maryland. It acts as liaison for the re-
mote sensing user community and offers technical
review of proposed projects while facilitating effi-
cient and economical use of related personnel,
equipment, and products (Code Natural Re-
sources Article, sec. 1-102 (d)).
