The Executive Director of the Licensing Boards
provides centralized administrative staff for the li-
censing boards within the Division of Occupation-
al and Professional Licensing. These boards in-
clude the Maryland Architectural Registration
Board; Maryland Statewide Master Electrical Li-
censing Board; State Board of Examining Engi-
neers; State Board of Registration for Foresters;
Board of Examiners for Hearing Aid Dealers;
Maryland Board of Examiners of Landscape Ar-
chitects; Board of Examiners of Maryland Pilots;
The State Board of Commissioners of Practical
Plumbing; State Board of Registration for Profes-
sional Engineers; State Board of Registration for
Professional Land Surveyors; Maryland State
Board of Public Accountancy; and the Licensure
of Secondhand Precious Metals and Gem Dealers
and Pawnbrokers.

MARYLAND ARCHITECTURAL
REGISTRATION BOARD

The Maryland Architectural Registration Board
was established as the Board of Examiners and
Registration of Architects in 1935 (Chapter 309,
Acts of 1935). The Board adopted its present
name in 1968 (Chapter 463, Acts of 1968). The
Board passes upon all matters pertaining to the
registration of architects in Maryland. All per-
sons, corporations, or partnerships seeking to
practice architecture in the State must submit
their qualifications to the Board or pass its exami-
nation before being registered and licensed to
practice.

The Governor appoints the Board's seven mem-
bers to five-year terms with the advice of the Sec-
retary of Licensing and Regulation and with the
advice and consent of the Senate. Five members

must be architects who have engaged in independ-
ent practice for at least ten years. At least three
members must be graduates of approved schools
of architecture. Two members represent the pub-
lic. The Governor designates the chairperson.

Authorization for the Board continues until Ju-
ly 1, 1993 (Code 1957, Art. 56, sees. 463^78).

MARYLAND STATEWIDE
ELECTRICAL LICENSING BOARD

The Maryland Statewide Electrical Licensing
Board was created in 1984 (Chapter 731, Acts of
1984). The Board examines and licenses master
electricians desiring to work on a statewide or
multi-county basis.

With the advice and consent of the Senate, the
Governor appoints the Board's nine members. Six
are master electricians and three represent the
public. Members serve three-year terms (Code
1957, Art. 56, sees. 530-542).

The Board of Examining Engineers was estab-
lished in 1892 (Chapter 448, Acts of 1892). The
Board examines applicants for certificates of profi-
ciency to operate stationary or portable engines in
Baltimore City. All such certificates must be re-
newed biennially. The Board also has authority to
inspect industries and places of business where li-
censed engineers are employed to ensure compli-
ance with the law.

The Board consists of five members appointed
by the Governor with the advice of the Secretary
