and Community Development (Senate Bill no.
699).
MARYLAND SERVICE CORPS
Transferred from the Department of Human
Resources to the Office on Volunteerism in 1986
(Chapter 13, Acts of 1986).

The Commission was originally appointed by
the Governor in 1971 as the Commission on the
Concerns of Spanish-Speaking People. It was
renamed the Governor's Commission on Hispanic
Affairs in 1978.
The Commission advises the Governor, the
General Assembly, and agencies within the Exec-
utive Department on matters relating to the His-
panic peoples of Maryland. It works with the His-
panic population, community leaders, private
groups, and agencies of State and local govern-
ment to serve and represent the State's Hispanic
population.
The Commission consists of five ex officio mem-
bers and fifteen members appointed to three-year
terms by the Governor.

In 1986, provisions for the Council were repealed
(Chapter 13, Acts of 1986).
WEATHERIZATION ASSISTANCE
PROGRAM
Transferred from the Department of Human
Resources to the Department of Housing and
Community Development in 1987 (Senate Bill no.
699).
