The Office of Minority Affairs was created by
Chapter 25, Acts of 1980, pursuant to an Executive
Order submitted to the Legislature in accordance
with the provisions of Article 2, Section 24, of the
Constitution of Maryland. The Office of Minority
Affairs replaced the Office of Minority Business
Enterprise of the Department of Economic and
Community Development. The new Office as-
sumed the responsibilities of the former agency and
was given additional duties as well.
The Office of Minority Affairs fosters growth
and participation in minority businesses, promotes
and coordinates government programs aimed at
strengthening such firms, and provides technical
and management assistance to them. In addition,
the Office advises the Governor on matters affect-
ing minority employment and minority rights and
interests and provides assistance to minority citi-
zens, as authorized by the Governor.
