By Chapter 154, Acts of 1969, the Secretary of
Natural Resources was authorized to create an
advisory board for the Department of Natural
Resources. The Secretary determines the size of the
Board. Members serve indefinite terms and repre-
sent the different professional areas or fields of
endeavor with which the Department is concerned
(Code Natural Resources Article, sec. 1-105).

OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY

Under the direct supervision of the Office of the
Secretary are the following services: Executive
Direction, Assistance and Information Services,
and General Administration.

Executive Direction provides for the establish-
ment, coordination, administration, and direction
of departmental policy, and has final responsibility
for management policy. Executive Direction also
maintains liaison with various legislative bodies.

Assistance and Information Services informs the
public of Department policies and activities.

General Administration is responsible for fiscal
affairs, personnel, federal aid coordination, data
processing services, and management of registra-
tion and titling of boats.

BOAT DEALER ADVISORY COUNCIL
Chairperson: Bess Crandall

Appointed by the Secretary of Natural Re-
sources, the Council advises the Secretary on
boating laws and how they affect the boating
industry in Maryland (Code Natural Resources
Article, sec. l-102(d)).

The Committee coordinates remote sensing ac-
tivities in Maryland. It acts as liaison for the
remote sensing user community and offers techni-

The Chesapeake Bay Critical Area Commission
was created by Chapter 794, Acts of 1984. The
Commission oversees the preparation of land-use
plans by local governments to regulate undevel-
oped land use along the Bay's shores and tributar-
ies. The Commission is concerned with a
1,000-foot strip around the Bay and its tributaries.
It is this planning area that is critical to the
survival of the Bay's tidal waters, fish, wildlife, and
plant habitats.
