In 1974, Ms. Sheehan was elected to the House
of Delegates. She was assigned to the House Judi-
ciary Committee for three years. During that time |
she served on the Joint Committee on Rape and
Related Offenses and was the sponsor of legisla-
tion that reformed the rape laws in Maryland. In
1978, she was assigned to the Ways and Means
Committee.
Ms. Sheehan has been active in issues dealing
with health, aging, and the handicapped. She has
received the Ann Landon Scott Award for legisla-
tive excellence from the National Organization
for Women, and awards from the Maryland State
Planning Council on Developmental Disabilities,
the Maryland Psychological Association, the
Prince George's County Association for Retarded
Citizens, and the Mental Health Association.
She is a member of the League of Women Vot-
ers, the Business and Professional Women's Club,
the Association of Retarded Citizens, the Mental
Health Association, Citizens for Branch Avenue
Metro, and the Pnnce George's County Board of
Realtors. She is vice chairperson of the Board of
Greater South East Aging Center and a board
member of the Suitland Redevelopment Corpora-
tion.
She resides in Largo with her three children,
Laura 18, John 16, and Neal 12. Her oldest son
Peter resides in Baltimore with his wife Deborah. |
