Should any of the dates listed above fall on a
Sunday, the holiday is observed on the following
Monday (Acts of 1882, chap. 23).
If any of the holidays enumerated should oc-
cur on Saturday, the Friday immediately preced-
ing shall be deemed and treated as a holiday
(Acts of 1970, chap. 359; Code 1957, Art. 13,
sec. 13).
2. Movable
The Friday before Easter Sunday (Acts 1882,
chap. 23), Good Friday.
The first Monday in September (Acts 1916,
chap. 633), Labor Day.
The fourth Thursday in November (Acts 1890,
chap. 238), Thanksgiving Day.
All days of general and congressional Elections

ernor (Acts 1862, chap. 70) or by the President of
the United States (Acts of 1882, chap. 23).
The Governor may declare bank holidays in
case of an emergency resulting from fire, flood,
storms, snow, robbery, riot, or other causes (Acts
of 1966, chap. 243).
Saturdays
It is lawful for any banking institution to re-
main closed on any one or more or all Saturdays
if this closing is authorized by resolution of its
board of directors. Any Saturday on which such
bank may remain closed shall constitute a legal
holiday (Code 1957, Art. 13, sec. 10).
It is lawful for banks in Maryland to close their
doors at twelve o'clock noon on every Saturday of
the year. After twelve o'clock noon, Saturday is a
legal holiday. This does not apply in Howard and
Talbot counties (Code 1957, Art. 13, sec. 13).

The General Assembly has authorized the Gov-
