The Governor's Executive Council, established
by Chapter 156, Acts of 1969, superseded the
Governor's Advisory Council, created by Chapter
29, Acts of 1922. It was created for the purpose
of coordination and effective direction and super-
vision of the State government. The Council con-
sists of the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor,
the Secretary of State, and all Secretaries of prin-
cipal departments serving at the pleasure of the
Governor. The Governor may designate or ap-
point an Executive Secretary for the Council
(Code 1957, Art. 41, sec. 44; Code Education Ar-
ticle, secs. 2-303(d), 12-104).

The Governor is authorized to appoint at his
pleasure a military staff that may consist of the
Adjutant General and not more than twelve aides
selected from the Commissioned Officers of the
National Guard and Naval Militia (Code 1957,
Art. 65, sec. 9).
