POET LAUREATE OF MARYLAND
By Chapter 178, Acts of 1959, the Governor
was authorized to appoint a citizen of the State as
Poet Laureate of Maryland.
On April 30, 1959, the Governor appointed
Maria B. Croker as the first Poet Laureate. On
June 13, 1962, the Governor appointed Vincent |

Godfrey Bums Poet Laureate of Maryland, the
second person to be so designated. Bums served
in the position until his death in February 1979.

STATE THEATERS
By Chapter 1003, Acts of J978, Center Stage
in Baltimore was designated the State Theater of
Maryland. By the same act Oiney Theatre in
Montgomery County was designated as the State
summer theater of Maryland (Code 1957, Art.
41, sec. 77D). |
