This list does not include collegiate, fraternal,
professional, trade, religious, or similar journals.
It was compiled in part from information sup-
plied by the Maryland-Delaware-D. C. Press As-
sociation, the 1977 Editor and Publishers Year-
book, and the 1978 National Directory of Weekly
Newspapers. To be listed the following criteria
were followed:
As used in any law, ordinance, resolution, de-
cree, or order of court the term "paper," "newspa-
per," "newspaper in general circulation," "news-
paper devoted to the dissemination of general
news," or terms of similar import is defined as a
publication having the following requirements:
It shall have at least four pages.

It shall habitually contain news items, legal
and general intelligence, reports of current
events, editorial comments, advertising matter,
and other miscellaneous information of public
interest generally found in the ordinary news-
paper.
It shall be published and distributed by sale at
least once each week from an established place of
business.
It shall have general circulation throughout the
community in which it is published.
It shall be entitled to be entered as second-
class matter in the United States mail (Code
1957, Art. 76, sec. 8).
