The Commission on Physical Fitness was creat-
ed by Chapter 606, Acts of 1963, to protect and
improve the physical fitness of the residents of this
State.

"The Commission consists of twenty-five
members, including a chairperson, all appointed
by the Governor upon the recommendation of the
Secretary of Health and Mental Hygiene because
of their interest or experience in physical fitness
for both youth and adults. Members serve for a
term of four years. "The Commission appoints the
Executive Director, who also serves as the Secre-
tary of the Commission.

"The Commission maintains liaison with the
State Department of Education, the city and coun-
ty Boards of Education, private and parochial
schools, and physical fitness commissions. It also
disseminates information about physical fitness,
collects and assembles information from other
departments and agencies of the State, and
employs such personnel as necessary to carry out
its functions.

The Governor also appoints in each county and
the City of Baltimore a local Physical Fitness Com-
mission, composed of from fifteen to twenty-five
residents of the particular political subdivision.
"The Governor designates the chairperson of each
Commission (Code 1957, Art. 41, sees. 339-345).

The Board of Pharmacy, created by Chapter
179, Acts of 1902, consists of seven members, six
of whom are skilled pharmacists and one a
consumer. All members are appointed by the
Governor upon the recommendation of the Secre-
tary of Health and Mental Hygiene for five-year
terms. Each pharmacist member of the Board is
selected from a list of recommendations submit-
ted by the Maryland Pharmaceutical Association.
The consumer member is recommended by the
Secretary of Health and Mental Hygiene. Two
members must be residents of Baltimore City,
two must be residents of the counties of the State,
and three must be from the State at large. The
Board licenses pharmacists by examination and
reciprocity and there is also a biennial re-registra-
tion program for pharmacists. The Board issues
permits for the operation of retail pharmacies and
for the manufacture of drugs, medicines, toilet
articles, dentifrices, and cosmetics. "The Board
also licenses jobbers, distributors, and wholesalers
or manufacturers of dangerous (prescription)
drugs. In cooperation with the Department of
Health and Mental Hygiene, the Board enforces
the pharmacy and drug laws of the State.

The members of the Board and duly authorized
agents of the Department of Health and Mental
Hygiene inspect all pharmacies or other places
where prescriptions, medicines, drugs, drug
products, or domestic remedies are compounded or
sold, and inspects prescriptions, medicines, drugs,
drug products, or domestic products exposed for
sale. Druggists and pharmacists are required to
keep in their places of business a suitable book or
file in which to preserve for a period of not less
than five years every prescription compounded or
dispensed (Code 1957, Art. 43, sees. 249-289).
