on a Sunday, the holiday is observed on the
following Monday (Acts of 1882, chap. 23).
Effective January 1, 1971 (Acts 1969,
chap. 206), certain holidays were observed
on Mondays, as follows: |

Effective from the date of passage of the
Act, Memorial Day is now celebrated on
May 30 instead of the fourth Monday in
May and Veterans' Day on November 11
(Acts 1974, chap. 589). |
Effective July 1, 1974, Columbus Day is
now celebrated on October 12 instead of |
the second Monday in October (Acts 1974,
chap. 711). |
There are no changes in the observance
of any of the other days (Code 1957, 1968
Repl. Vol., 1975 Supp., Art. 13, sees. 9,
11,12). |
If any of the holidays enumerated in Sec-
tion 9 of Article 13 should occur on Satur- |
day, the Friday immediately preceding shall
be deemed and treated as a holiday (Acts
of 1970, chap. 359; Code 1957, 1964 Repl.
Vol., 1975 Supp., Art. 100, sec. 77). |
2. Movable |
The Friday before Easter Sunday (Acts
1882, chap. 23), Good Friday. |
The first Monday in September (Acts
1916, chap. 633), Labor Day. |
The fourth Thursday in November (Acts

The Governor may declare bank holidays
in case of an emergency resulting from
fire, flood, storms, snow. robbery, riot or
other causes (Acts of 1966, chap. 243). |
3. Saturdays |
It is lawful for any banking institution to
remain closed on any one or more or all
Saturdays if this closing is authorized by
resolution of its board of directors. Any |
Saturday on which such bank may remain
closed shall constitute a legal holiday (Code
1957, 1968 Repl. Vol., Art. 13, sec. 10). |
It is lawful for banks in Maryland to
close their doors at twelve o'clock noon on
every Saturday of the year. After twelve
o'clock noon, Saturday is a legal holiday.
