Charles Street, Baltimore 21218 Telephone: 383-2693 The Advisory Council on Drug Abuse, created by Chapter 404, Acts of 1969, consists of certain ex officio members and nine members repre- senting the general public who are appointed by the Governor for three-year terms. The ex officio members are the State Superintendent of Schools, the Commissioner of Mental Hygiene, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Health and Mental Hygiene, the Commissioner of Labor and Industry, the Commissioner of Correction, the Secretary of Em- ployment and Social Services, the Director of the Division of Parole and Probation, the Chairman of the State Parole Board, the Director of the Drug Abuse Administration and the Mayor of the City of Balti- more. The Governor designates the Chairman and the Vice Chairman who must be members appointed from the general public. The Council advises the Governor and the Drug Abuse Administra- tion on the formulation of a comprehensive plan for long range devel- opment through the utilization of federal, state, local and private re- sources of adequate services and facilities for the prevention and control of drug addiction, diagnosis, treatment, and control of drug addicts and the revision from time to time of such a plan. The Council also promotes, establishes, coordinates and conducts unified programs for education, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and con- trol in the field of drug abuse in cooperation with other federal, state, local and private agencies. The Council further evaluates existing and planned programs and facilities administered by the Administration (Code 1957, 1971 Repl. Vol., Art. 43B, sec. 3).
