MARYLAND MANUAL 299 FROSTBURG STATE COLLEGE Nelson P. Guild, Ph.D., President College Avenue, Frostburg (Allegany County) 21632 Telephone: 689-6621 Frostburg State College was established by Chapter 406, Acts of 1898 as a normal school, called Normal School #2 at Frostburg. It became a full four-year teachers college in 1934, and its name changed to Frostburg State Teachers College. The College offers Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degree programs. The College was authorized by the Board of Trustees in 1958 to offer graduate work leading to the degree of Master of Education. By Chapter 41, Acts of 1963, the College adopted its present name. In 1971, the College was authorized to offer graduate work leading to the degree of Master of Management. The enrollment for 1970-71 wag 2,331.

In 1890, the school's name changed to Morgan College in honor of Dr. Lyttleton Morgan, whose gift of a large sum of money enabled the school to offer academic work at the college level. The school remained under church jurisdiction until the State of Maryland pur- chased it by Chapter 331, Acts of 1939. The College is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and by the Department of Education of Maryland. It is also approved by the Regents of the University of the State of New York, the American Medical Association, and by the American Chemical Society. |
