250 MARYLAND MANUAL The Wholesome Meat Advisory Council was established pursuant to the Maryland Wholesome Meat Act, Chapter 618, Acts of 1968. It was originally created for a period of three years to provide broadened representation in policy determinations with regard to meat inspection in the State but its existence was extended indefinitely by Chapter 66, Acts of 1971. All members are appointed by the Governor from repre- sentatives of the State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the Baltimore City Health Department, the Maryland Farm Bureau, the Maryland Agricultural Commission, the Consumer Protection Division of the office of the Attorney General of Maryland, the Maryland Frozen Food Locker Association, Inc., and four from the slaughtering and processing industry, one ex officio member is designated by the Secre- tary of Agriculture. The Council advises the Secretary in adopting rules and regulations relating to meat inspection and the establishment of production standards (Agriculture Article, sees. 4-105). Hawkins, Executive Secretary Parole Plaza Office Building, Annapolis 21401 Telephone: 267-1338 The State Soil Conservation Committee, established by Chapter 436, Acts of 1937, and as amended from time to time since that date, con- sists of the Secretary of the Department of Natural Resources or his designated representative, the principal administrative officer for Agri- cultural Affairs at the University of Maryland or other University official he may designate, the Chairman of the Maryland Agricultural Commission or any other member of the Commission he may designate, the President of the Maryland Association of Soil Conservation Dis- tricts, and three soil conservation district supervisors representing different geographic areas of the State from soil conservation districts organized in Maryland, appointed by the Agriculture. Each of these supervisors serve three-year terms. The State Soil Conservation Committee has organized Soil Conserva- tion Districts in all counties of the State. The Committee coordinates the work of the twenty-four Soil Conservation Districts in Maryland to further the application of scientifically sound and practical conserva- tion measures to the lands in Maryland which will result in a retarda- tion of erosion and the advancement of soil and water conservation. The Committee makes available to the districts such funds as are made available to the Committee for use by the districts in implementing the soil conservation district program. |
