This Board, created by Chapter 172, Acts of 1904, as amended by
Chapter 122, Acts of 1973, consists of seven members, two of whom
must be Licensed Practical Nurses and five Registered Nurses all ap-
pointed by the Governor upon the recommendation of the Secretary of
Health and Mental Hygiene for three-year terms. As vacancies occur,
the Maryland Nurses Association and the Maryland Licensed Practical
Nurses Association, as the case may be, submits to the Governor and
to the Secretary of Health and Mental Hygiene the names of five of
its members from which the Governor selects appointees. The Board
examines all applicants for registration as "Registered Nurse" and as
"Licensed Practical Nurse" and issues the proper certificates. It keeps
a register of the names of all "Registered Nurses" and all "Licensed
Practical Nurses" which is open at all reasonable times to public scrut-
iny. The Board renews "Registered Nurse" and "Licensed Practical
Nurse" licenses biennially. The Board prescribes standards for nursing
education programs and surveys such programs as is necessary in
order to meet the requirements of the Board (Code 1957, 1971 Repl.
Vol., Art. 43, sees. 290-302; 1972 Supp., Art. 43, sec. 292).
The Board cooperates with the National League for Nursing in the
preparation of its State Board Test Pool Licensing Examinations and
uses these examinations.

The Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators was es-
tablished by Chapter 262, Acts of 1970 to examine, license and register
nursing home administrators.
The Board consists of nine members appointed by the Governor upon
the recommendation of the Secretary of Health and Mental Hygiene
for three-year terms. The Governor designates the Chairman and the
Vice Chairman, while the Board appoints the Executive Secretary. The
membership includes four individuals who are actively engaged in the
management and operation of a nursing home, four persons other than
nursing home administrators who are actively engaged in professions
concerned with the care of the aged and the chronically ill, and one
