ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH ADMINISTRATION Howard Chaney, Director 610 North Howard Street, Baltimore 21201 Telephone: 383-2740 The Environmental Health Administration directs the efforts to safeguard the public health against potential threats arising from environmental deterioration. The Division of Air Quality Control monitors the air through state- wide sampling stations. The Division has developed appropriate regu- lations under the Air Quality Control Act and a vigorous enforcement program is under way. The Division of Solid Wastes functions as a regulatory unit to ensure solid waste activities are planned, designed, and operated in accordance with State laws and acceptable engineering practice. The Division of Water and Sewerage conducts the control programs directed toward assurance of safe potable water supplies and adequate treatment of sewage. The Division also has responsibility for training sewage plant operating personnel and coordinates planning and con- struction of treatment facilities. The Division of Food and Milk regulates transportation of food products, inspects food processing and storage practices, eating and drinking establishments, and assures safety of shellfish products. The Division of General Sanitation is responsible for residential and recreational sanitation, housing hygiene, insect and rodent control, migrant labor camps, and other camps. It also enforces the Bedding and Upholstery Control Act. The Division of Drug Control enforces the laws regulating distri- bution of prescription drugs and narcotics, registration of pharmacists, and manufacturing and dispensing of drug compounds. The Division of Radiological Health conducts programs which con- trol exposure of the public to unnecessary radiation.
