The Drug Abuse Administration was created on May 1, 1971 by Executive Order No. I of the Governor as confirmed by Chapter 29, Acts of 1971 to replace the Drug Abuse Authority. Medicare Certification conducts the Medicare certification investigations required under the Federal law providing payments for health services under Title XVIII of the Social Security Act. Montebello State Hospital Julian J. Fried, M.D., Superintendent 2201 Argonne Drive, Baltimore 21218 Telephone: 889-3080 Montebello State Hospital, authorized by Chapter 412, Acts of 1951, opened in 1953 as the principal unit of the Chronic Disease Hospital System.
