Lee, Chief, Meat and Poultry Inspection, Animal Health Department, State Board of Agriculture College Park 20742 Telephone: 454-4404 The Wholesome Meat Advisory Council was established pursuant to the Maryland Wholesome Meat Act, Chapter 618, Acts of 1968. It was originally created for a period of three years to provide broad- ened representation in policy determinations with regard to meat inspection in the State but its existence was extended indefinitely by Chapter 66, Acts of 1971. All members were appointed by the Gov- ernor from representatives of the State Health Department, the Bal- timore City Health Department, the Maryland Farm Bureau, the Maryland Agricultural Commission, the Consumer Protection Division of the office of the Attorney General of Maryland, the Maryland Frozen Food Locker Association, Inc., the slaughtering and process- ing industry, and one ex officio member designated by the State Board of Agriculture. The Council serves as an advisory body to the State Board of Agriculture in implementing the Maryland Wholesome Meat Act as well as in effecting cooperation with the U. S. Department of Agriculture and local health authorities (Code 1967, 1970 Repl. Vol., 1971 Supp., Art. 66C, sees. 470A-470Y). WHOLESOME POULTRY ADVISORY COUNCIL OF MARYLAND Chairman: T. A. Berrier Animal Health Department, University of Maryland, College Park 20742 Telephone: 454-4404 The Wholesome Poultry Advisory Council of Maryland was estab- lished pursuant to Chapter 536, Acts of 1970, for a period of three years to advise the State Board of Agriculture in the making of rules and regulations for poultry inspection, establishing production and processing standards for poultry and poultry products, and making the necessary changes from time to time in the Poultry Products In- spection Act for the advancement of the poultry processing industry. The Council consists of eleven members of whom ten were appointed by the Governor for three-year terms. The eleventh member is an ex officio member, designated by the State Board of Agriculture without the right to vote. Of the appointed members, one represents the State Department of Health, one the Maryland Farm Bureau, one the Maryland Agricultural Commission, one the Consumer Protection Division of the office of the Attorney General, one the Maryland Vet- erinary Medical Association, and five are from the slaughtering and processing industry. Of these last five members, one must be from the State at large, two from Baltimore City and two must be producer processors. The Council selects its own Chairman and makes reports and recommendations to the State Board of Agriculture from time to time. |
