Webb 93 College Avenue, Annapolis 21401 Telephone: 267-5973 Chapter 41, Acts of 1963 established the Board of Trustees of the State Colleges to direct and control the four-year public colleges of the State. The Board consists of nine members, eight of whom are appointed by the Governor. The State Superintendent of Schools serves as an ex officio member. The eight appointive members serve for nine- year terms and may be reappointed (Code 1957, 1969 Repl. Vol., Art. 77, Chap. 13, sees. 164-65). The Board of Trustees submits an annual report in January of each year to the Governor and to the members of the General Assembly which includes a summary of the Board's major activities for the pre- ceding year together with a financial statement and other statistical data pertaining to the State Colleges. The Board publishes, as necessary, a brochure for distribution throughout the State which is entitled "Consider a Maryland College." The purpose of the brochure is to provide prospective college students a brief description of the public colleges under the jurisdiction of the Board of Trustees. The Board also publishes a manual for distribution within the State College system entitled "Laws Relating to and Gov- erning Policies and Procedures of the Board of Trustees of the State Colleges of Maryland." The purpose of the Manual is to provide administrative guidelines for the operation of the State Colleges and it is amended from time to time to reflect changes in Board policy. Appropriations 1971 1972 General Funds $ 871,206 $1,214,050 Special Funds 46,200 Capital Funds 4,000,000 4,000,000 BOARDS OF VISITORS OF THE STATE COLLEGES The Board of Visitors for each of the State colleges under the jurisdiction of the Board of Trustees of the State Colleges was created by Chapter 799, Acts of 1969. Each Board consists of nine members, of whom seven are appointed by the Governor for five-year staggered terms, one of whom is a faculty member elected by the faculty mem- bers of that college, and one of whom is a student member elected by the student body of that college. The seven appointed members may be reappointed, but may not serve longer than ten years. The student inembers serve only one year terms. The Boards select their own officers. |
