The Interagency Committee for School Construction was established by the Board of Public Works as authorized by Chapter 624, Acts of 1971, to assemble, amend, and keep up to date an annual and a five- year program of elementary and secondary school capital improve- ments funded or to be funded by the State, including remodeling of school facilities. The program contains the estimated cost of each project. Each local board of education is required to submit to the Com- mittee by January I of each year its updated and detailed capital improvement program for the following fiscal year to be accompanied by a school capital improvement program for the ensuing five years, both of which shall have been approved by the appropriate local governing bodies. The Committee is required to recommend approval or, in consultation with affected local hoards, modification of the capital improvement programs, and forward a consolidated State pro- gram for the following fiscal year, including all proposed dispositions of improved school facilities, to the Board of Public Works, to be acted on at the Board's February meeting. The appropriations for the expense of the Committee are included in the budgets of the Board of Public Works, the State Department of Education, the State Department of Planning, and the Department of General Services (Code 1957, 1969 Repl. Duncan, Director of Engineering Alvin Watson, Director of Administrative Services Schwartz and Woods, Legal Counsel Owings Mills 21117 Telephone: 356-5600 The Maryland Public Broadcasting Commission, originally created by Chapter 202, Acts of 1966, as the Maryland Educational-Cultural Television Commission, had its functions expanded by Chapter 645, Acts of 1967, when it became known as the Maryland Educational- Cultural Broadcasting Commission. The Commission was created to develop, operate and maintain a system of State, regional, and local facilities to provide educational and cultural television and radio pro- gramming throughout Maryland. The Commission consists of eleven members appointed by the Gov- ernor for five-year terms. The Governor designates the Chairman and the' Vice Chairman of the Commission. One of the members must be the State Superintendent of Schools and two other members are designated by the State Board of Education. Members are chosen because of their interest in public education, libraries, art, music, drama, higher education, the television and radio industries, or other categories to be chosen by the Governor to bring special competence |
