The Board of Parole was created by Chapter 457, Acts of 1968 to
become effective on January 1, 1969 and to replace the Board of
Parole and Probation.
The Board is composed of a chairman and six associate members,
all of whom are appointed for terms of eight years each by the
Secretary of Public Safety and Correctional Services, with the ap-
proval of the Governor and with the advice and consent of the Senate.
The Secretary of Public Safety and Correctional Services designates
the Chairman of the Board.

the laws of this State to any penal or correctional institution. The
Board also has the power to issue warrants for the return to custody

a showing of a violation of the conditions thereof. The presence of
at least two members of the Board is required for the hearing of all
cases for parole release and revocation, and the concurrence of at
least two members of the Board is required for any action. The
Board conducts hearings for inmates who have served one-fourth of
their sentences, at least each month, at the penal or correctional
institutions under the supervision and control of the Division of
Correction and, as often as may be required, at jails or other places
of penal confinement or detention in the State. In addition, the Board
evaluates information on the activities of parolees as reported by the
Division of Parole and Probation and makes recommendations to the
Governor with respect to life cases, pardons, and commutations of
