GOVERNOR'S YOUTH ADVISORY COUNCIL

The Governor's Youth Advisory Council was created within the
Department of Employment and Social Services by Executive Order
in 1971.
The Governor's Youth Advisory Council is charged with communi-
cating to the Governor, the Legislature and the citizenry of the State,
the concerns of Maryland youth on matters involving State programs,
policies and legislation which affect the young people of the State.
The Delegates to the Council comprise one-hundred and fifteen
members between the ages of thirteen and twenty-two, all chosen from
diverse backgrounds. One hundred were chosen at random by utilizing
a formula which insures equitable distribution by age, race, sex and
geography. Fifteen were selected by direct appointment of the
Governor.

The Governor appointed this Committee in 1969 to plan for Mary-
land's participation in the White House Conference on Children and
Youth was held in 1970. The Maryland Committee acts as the liaison
between the Governor's office and a national committee to be appointed
by the President.
