98 MARYLAND MANUAL This Board was created by Chapter 430, Acts of 1967. It consists of nine members appointed by the Governor from among representa- tives of municipal government, sanitary or metropolitan commissions, a water works superintendent, a wastewater works superintendent, a farmer, an engineer, and representatives of the State Department of Health and the Department of Water Resources. Members serve for four-year staggered terms, except that the representatives of the Department of Health and the Department of Water Resources serve at the pleasure of their appointing authorities. The Board is to establish a certification program for Superin- tendents of water works, wastewater works, and industrial wastewater works to protect public health and to prevent pollution. The Board will also draw up examinations for Superintendent certification (Code 1957, 1966 Repl. Vol., 1968 Supp., Art. 43, sec. 406A). MARYLAND STATE SCHOOL HEALTH COUNCIL Chairman: John A. Preston Street, Baltimore 21201 Telephone: 383-3010 The Maryland State School Health Council was created in 1969 to assist in the development and maintenance of school health programs which will afford maximum health benefits to every school age child in Maryland. The Council consists of two representatives from each of the twenty-three counties and Baltimore City together with the eighteen members of the Executive Board. The Executive Board includes three members of the general body elected by it, two repre- sentatives of the State Department of Education appointed by the State Superintendent of Schools, two representatives of the State Department of Health appointed by the Commissioner of Health, one representative of the State Department of Mental Hygiene appointed by the Commissioner of Mental Hygiene, one representative of the Department of Social Services appointed by the Director of Social Services, one representative of the American Academy of Pediatrics appointed by the Maryland Chapter of the Academy, one repre- sentative of the Medical and Chirurgical Faculty of the State of Maryland appointed by the Faculty, one representative appointed by the Maryland Association of School Superintendents, one representa- tive appointed by the Conference of Health Officers, one representative appointed by the Maryland State Association for Higher Education, one representative appointed by the Maryland Congress of Parents and Teachers, one representative appointed by the Maryland State Nurses Association, one representative appointed by the Department of Education of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, and one representative appointed by the Maryland State Teachers Association. Members of the Executive Board serve three-year terms. The Council selects its own officers.
